Do you know when it's time to clean your gutters?
Following are the signs of gutter blockages:
  • If the water is coming over the sides of the guttering during rain, it may indicate that there is a build of rubbish laying in it. It is surprising how much can build up and the common sources are leaves and rubbish washed off the roof, scraps of food dropped by birds, etc.
  • Another way to check your downspouts is by making sure that the water is flowing out of the downspouts and the downspouts are positioned correctly from the foundation of the house.
Gutters should be cleaned twice a year. Our recommendations are:
  • Springtime: March through July
  • Fall: October through February
If you have a property with large number of trees, you need to get your gutters cleaned more often. An appropriate screening can also help keep your gutter clean. Refer to our picture gallery for different types of screening.

Cleaning your gutters has its own benefits. Firstly, it prevents water from going into your basement. Water in the basement can affect your buildings foundations and lead to possible mold building behind your walls. Secondly, a clean gutter also prevents gutter water from running down your wall, which can eventually cause damage to your home's foundation. Gutter water, among other problems, can cause damage to your building's structure as well as erosion.
